Then Job answered the Lord and said:
“I know that you can do all things,
And that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.
Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?
Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand
Things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.
Hear, and I will speak;
I will question you, and you make it known to me.
I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear,
But now my eye sees you;
Therefore I despise myself,
And repent in dust and ashes”.
(Job 42: 1-6)
“By the teachings of men, God reveals his Son to us; but by the teachings of his Spirit he reveals his Son in us, (Galatians 1:16) changes us into the same image, (2 Corinthians 3:18). It concerns us to be deeply humbled for the sins of which we are convinced. Self-loathing is ever the companion of true repentance. The Lord will bring those whom he loveth, to adore him in self-abasement; while true grace will always lead them to confess their sins without self-justifying”. Commentary: Mathew Henry
