“A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.”
In other words, he is defenseless. ~
Words of wisdom spoken by King Solomon; inspired by God, providing wisdom pearls on the importance of self-control.
Self-control is one of the most fundamental keys to success in life. But what exactly is self-control, how does self-control work, why is it so important and how can it be improved? Can we master this control of self?
God tells us we are defenseless if we do not master this control of self. He shows us, in His word, the three important areas of our self which requires control, and all throughout scripture provides the wisdom pearls to help us overcome our defenselessness.
• The Passions ~ (Emotions) Love, Hatred, Desire, Joy, Sadness, Wonder
• The Appetites ~ (Pleasures) Physical & Material Comfort; Food, Sex,
• The Will ~ (Soul) What I Feel, What I do…What I think
• The Blueprint ~ Worldly or Godly – Which will you follow?
• The Consequences
We spend a lifetime seeking what has been there from the beginning. The key that unlocks the treasure is God, and the blueprint is in Him and His Word. In most cases, to effect change we take the bottom up approach. We begin with our brokenness, our consequences, and work our way up. And that can be a blessing if we find Him.
Most Gracious God thank you for your patience, in waiting on me, to learn what you showed me from the beginning. There is grievous and deep loss in lack of self-control, which we do not see, and sometimes it’s too late for the consequences can be painful, lasting and eternal. ~Amen :Y
