Conversations with God ~ Elihu ~ Who?

No Turning Back

No Turning Back

“that he may turn man aside from his deed

And conceal pride from a man;

He keeps back his soul from the pit,

His life from perishing by the sword.

(Job 33:17-18)

When the words of Job ended in response to his friends condemnation, Elihu, (whose name in Hebrew means “My God is He”) takes the stage, and in six biblical chapters presents us with yet another conundrum for man.

Who is this Elihu, this man child; a “beardless sage speaking to grey headed children?” In six chapters he rebukes Jobs friends, rebukes Job, asserts God’s justice, condemns Job, and finally extols God’s greatness ~ then he is gone ~ and God shows up.

Elihu teaches us that God is greater than man, and further demonstrates that God speaks through many different forms. We only need to listen….as our Shepherd Father may turn our circumstances, and thankfully save us from ourselves.

Blessed heavenly Father, thank you for your word, your truth, and the many mysteries we find ~ when there are none for you. Thank you for the many ways you speak to us and through us. Thank you for the “turning” you provide in our circumstances, and for the many lessons we learn, that draw us away from ourselves and closer to you. ~ Amen: Y
