Transformation in Sanctification and Teething Pains

Transformation

Transformation

“Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it. (1Thessalonians 5:23-24)

Sanctify…sanctification, to those in unbelief the words clang loudly in religiosity but for those in Christ, in sanctification, our blessed Savior did pray – ”Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth” (John 17:17) As children of the lamb we are in infantile growth, this teething in transformation, but it is not without whimpering we go. So we rip off the band aid of separation, in our world of superficial comfort, and we leave the womb once more.

To abide in the faith of the gospel is not enough; we must abound in the work of faith. The rule, according to which all ought to walk and act, is the commandments given by the Lord Jesus Christ. Sanctification, in the renewal of their souls under the influences of the Holy Spirit, and attention to appointed duties, constituted the will of God respecting them. In aspiring after this renewal of the soul unto holiness, strict restraint must be put upon the appetites and senses of the body, and on the thoughts and inclinations of the will, which lead to wrong uses of them. The Lord calls none into his family to live unholy lives, but that they may be taught and enabled to walk before him in holiness. Some make light of the precepts of holiness, because they hear them from men; but they are God’s commands, and to break them is to despise God. Commentary: Mathew Henry (1 Thessalonians 4:3)

Sovereign and most Holy Father, thank you for the gift of salvation and sanctification in Jesus Christ, our blessed Savior, and for our ongoing spiritual transformation from self-death to eternal life. Thank you for our sanctification in your truth, and our daily renewal through the Holy Spirit. ~Amen :Y
