Reflections – Seeking the Image of God’s Character

Vessels Ministry Living Water

“So God created man in his own image,

In the image of God he created him;

Male and female he created them.” (Genesis 1: 27)

In the very beginning we were made in the very image of God.

(I will need to pause here because I have to admit that the thought of that just leaves me breathless….)

In the mirror I see my own reflection ~ the outer part of me….my face, my coloring, my dress; and from all this I will conclude, you will conclude…. the opinion of myself….. or of me.

Vessels Ministry Reflections

What do you see ?

a One dimensional perspective.

If I reflect further into the mirror I will conclude how I think and how I feel about what I see.

Do I approve of the one dimensional perspective ? How has this perspective been measured ?

Performance, accomplishments, social status, struggles, emotions, failures, the past, the present….and who, and what determined the measurement in that bar of perspective ?

What I think, what I feel, what I do.

How do you measure ?

How do you measure ?

 a Two Dimensional perspective

But what about this very image of God ? What does that mean ? Where is that image of God, and how do I see His image, when I look in the mirror and only see the reflection of me ?

a Three dimensional perspective

His Vessel

His Vessel

His Vessel …..or the very image of God in me….. Are you trekking ?

But…. you say, but God is Spirit…..so exactly how would one begin to see…

God…a Spirit… His image… reflected in me ?

Genesis 5:1

….when God created man, he made him in the likeness of God.

2 Corinthians 3:18

“And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory

to another. For this comes from the Lord who is Spirit.”

Galatians 2:20

“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

Most High and Heavenly Father, it leaves me breathless to know that you made us in your image. It leaves me breathless to know that it is in and through Christ we can attain the very likeness of you. It leaves me breathless to know that you provided your Spirit so that we may attain that perfect image of you, and it is with the deepest of gratitude, and the greatest of praise, that I will be forever humbled by your glory. ~ Amen :Y
