The depth of meaning in our lives must be derived from a single life; but the making of our quilts are simply not just our own. Our lives are quilted and completed through the threads and the sewing in and sewing of the many lives of others. We cannot share our story without also sharing in a portion of their life quilt. God designed it that way.
I have experienced much Love in the making of my Quilt.
In God – my father
In a mother
In a sister
In a brother
In a daughter
In a spouse
In the circle of family of a spouse
In an aunt, uncle, cousin
In a grandchild
In a friend
In a companion
In a neighbor
In a stranger
In countless and nameless faces
In countless faces named
I prefer not to dwell on the evil that I experienced and saw in the making of my quilt. I prefer to dwell on how God protected and restored me from that evil. But I will say this – I understand, I know, and I can relate to the many trials of evil acts and sinful actions of others, and my own.
I can gently link my heart to yours in those things.
My preference is to dwell in the grace and the goodness of Christ, the single life that brought me the greatest depth of meaning, and the love that was sewn into my quilt, from the countless lives of others.
And in forgiveness all else is sewn.
“Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about those things. (Philippians 4:8)
